Detling Showground - Scott May Stuntshow Human Cannonball Accident
On Bank Holiday Monday 25 April 2011 I visited the Scott May stuntshow with my family at Kent County showground at Detling. At around 1530 the human cannonball stunt took place and as has been well documented now the safety netting collapsed before the performer Matt Cranch landed. Tragically he died from his injuries despite Kent Air ambulance and paramedics attending site within minutes.
We had previously been to the Scott May stuntshow at Sittingbourne in April 2003 and went again now that our sons are older. The video from the 2003 show was widely used by media worldwide and all money received from the licencing of this video is being donated to Kent Air Ambulance. Photos below are ones taken at Detling on 25 April 2011. I was interviewed by BBC TV South East Today, BBC Radio 2 Jeremy Vine show and BBC Radio Kent as an eyewitness to the tragedy and Medway News also ran an interview about what happened.
My experiences were also documented on my blog with various posts explaining what we had seen.
